Originally from New Zealand Flutey qualifies of both England and the British & Irish Lions on the grounds of residency. He started his career in his homeland at scrum-half at U19 level but subsequently moved to no. 10 for the New Zealand U21. Now he has secured the Inside Centre berth at London Wasps.

After qualifying in 2007 Wasps centre Flutey made his debut in the autumn tests against the Pacific Islanders and also started against Australia, South Africa and New Zealand.

He headed to England after playing for Super 14 side the Wellington Hurricanes and the New Zealand Maori. He joined Guinness Premiership side London Irish in 2005 scoring 272 points. This heralded a move to Wasps were he helped them win the Guinness Premiership title in 2007 and on a more personal grounding he was named the PRA Computcenter Players' Player of the Year in 2008.

A series of strong performances in this year Six Nations earned him a call up for the British & Irish Lions tour of South Africa.

Can he repeat the form he showed in this years Six Nations, finishing joint top try scorer with Ireland legend Brian O'Driscoll, and earn the Lions the tour victory everyone on these shores is hoping for.
