Biography
Cardiff Blues powerhouse Andy Powell has waited long enough for his International debut, bursting onto the scene with a truly awesome Man of the Match performance against South Africa in the 2008 autumn tests.
Wales lost the test 20-15 in the end but Powell's endless work-rate and awesome power shocked the Springboks and showed the world what he is capable of.
At 27 Powell's route to the International stage has been full of pitfalls. His extremely dynamic style of play has meant he has had to go through shoulder reconstruction surgery on his right shoulder and further surgery on his left shoulder. This has put him out of action for the start of both the 2006/07 and the 2007/08 season.
Since then he has been in and around the Wales Squad battling for a place at No. 8. Some further impressive and energetic performances for Wales have earned him a place in the this years British & irish Lions Squad as they prepare to take on the Mighty Springboks.
