Biography
Llanelli Scarlets and Wales fly half is the second highest points scorer in Wales history and closing in on Wales legendary no. 10 Neil Jenkins.
Joining Llanelli in 1996 Jones has worked his way through the ranks and managed to succeed Neil Jenkins as Wales first choice fly-half, making his debut in 1998 against South Africa.
He hit the form of his life to help the Welsh seal a 2005 Grand Slam triumph in the Six Nations. He was named fly-half of the tournament and this accolade earned him a spot in the British & Irish Lions squad, for their tour of New Zealand in 2005. He played a part in all three test matches kicking one conversion and four penalties in the last Test.
After such a high in 2005 Wales failed to live up to the expectations of the Nation with a disappointing defence of the Six Nations.
Jones was named Wales captain in November 2006, but was injured in his first game at the helm which paved the way for a young James Hook to be named man of the match. This began a fierce rivalry for the Wales no. 10 shirt.
An under pressure Jones had a disappointing Rugby World Cup in 2007, losing out to Hook in the starting fixture against Canada ultimately saw Wales crash out in the Pool stages to the expense of Fiji. Following this travesty he saw his duties as captain end at the hands of new Wales Coach Warren Gatland.
2008 again saw him battle James Hook for the fly-half position, he started games against both Ireland and Italy as Wales ran away with their second Gland Slam in three years.
He will be hoping his experience will help him, as he clashes heads with Irelands' Ronan O'Gara for the no. 10 Jersey in this years British & Irish Lions tour of South Africa.
