Biography
Over the last decade Phil Vickery has established himself as England's number one tighthead prop.
Making his test debut against Wales in the 1998 Six Nations Vickery then played for England in the 1999 Rugby World Cup.
A good run of form for club and country saw Vickery being handed the honour of representing the British & Irish Lions in their 2001 tour to Australia. He put in some solid performances and was selected for all 3 test matchs.
He was an importand lynch pin in the England pack as they won the Rugby World Cup in 2003. Playing in every game and scoring his first international try. However this high point soon turned sour as Vickery battled with injuries over the next few years seeing the number of cap oppourtunitues slowly decrease.
Good time were just round the corner again though as he was named England captain for the 2007 Rugby World Cup in which he led England to the final against South Africa, leaving the likes of Australia and France in their wake.
After a move to London Wasps from Gloucester in 2006 Vickery helped bring the Heineken Cup to Adams Park that same season. He also added the Guinness Premiership title to his accolades in 2008.
